Into Tournon, another cloudy drizzly morning, where we did not do the guided walk because there was a big market in the square and guess who couldn't pass the opportunity to fossick! Some of the women were late back for departure because of the market! Another nice little town which used to have a wall but now only 3 towers remain along with the 10th century castle and wide (by comparison) roads with some beautiful avenues of Sycamore trees.
On the opposite side of the river is Tain L'Hermitage with its terraced hills of vineyards.
During lunch we headed to Vienne for some more Roman History and architecture and of course ABC ( another bl.... Church/Castle).
We caught a little train up the hill after walking thru town past one the best preserved Roman Buildings in France - The Temple of Augustus and Livia which is still in use as a church.
Once on top of the Hill you can look down on a well preserved Amphitheater (built 1st century AD) which is still used for concerts. Love all the buildings as they are made of irregular sized stone except the important ones which are very carefully carved and shaped precisely.
We also had a visit by some Swans and their young family of cygnets which came right up to the side of the boat for a photo opportunity.
