Day 21 Tuesday 18 June

Well Day two in the South West Highlights tour and we were off to Dartmoor to see lots of Sheep, Horses and Foals. We got up close and personal with them several times and some of the horses got up close and personal with peoples cars! An apple does not cut into enough pieces! After this we went to Postbridge and saw the "Clapper Bridge" which was an ancient bridge made of flat stones, and was in perfect condition after hundreds of years.

Next was the historic market town of Tavistock, also the home of Sir Francis Drake. (an early bowler and commander of the English Fleet, who would not stop his game of bowls even tho the French Armada was in sight!!!)

Dartmoor Prison from as close as I wish to be!!

Buckfast Abbey

Then back to Exeter to explore the Roman ruins and the river etc. Exeter even had a series of underground passages to supply water to the town. The 12th century Norman Cathedral was also a highlight with the longest continuous stretch of arches and a magnificent organ which was being played for a choral practice, whilst there. All these places are light until 9-10pm so we seemed to go on and on till we got hungry - then we visited an ancient pub (17th century I think) and tried a few of the local ales.
