DAY 28 Tuesday 25 June

This morning we had a easy time while traveling to Cologne with Robert, our Cruise Director, doing a talk on the Rhine Gorge for the next day. We arrived in Cologne mid afternoon and went ashore for our walking tour at 4pm. Cologne was established by the Romans in 50AD and the Cologne Cathedral was built in the 12th century to hold the remains of the three Magi (the three wise men) which has made this one of the most important places for religious pilgrimages. We visited  the ruins of the Jewish quarter and saw the  place where they first made Eau De Cologne or 4711.
The cathedral is huge and very ornate and is said to be the one of the finest examples of the High Gothic style although the outside is covered in black stains and does not look very attractive.
We departed for Koblenz in the evening at 10.45 after some great entertainment.

The spires of the Cathedral are visible from afar
