Today is a free day and we decided not to walk to the Eiffel Tower because it was raining on and off. We went to the bus terminal near our Hotel and eventually a very nice black African employee with perfect English, French and his native tongue, helped us pick a type of fare and route and worked the ticket machine for us. We walked to the tower from the bus stop but the weather was not worth going up to any level so we moved on via bus to the Champs Elysees and Lafayette shops with its beautiful dome and we went up to the roof for photos but of course we got wet again. We ate and spent quite some time in here including finding a mobile phone which was not locked. The distressed owner eventually rang it and we left it with a shop assistant for them to pick up. We bought lots of souvenirs here before heading back to our hotel area via bus and we started looking for somewhere to eat a snack for dinner. We sat down in a cafe/restaurant and were given front seats and a menu by a nice waiter. By the way the people sitting in restaurants and cafes in Paris sit facing the street so as to observe the passing people! Anyway we decided we would only have a nice desert and coffee and when I started to order the not - so - nice - anymore waiter insisted we leave as this was a restaurant and we could not just order desert - even tho the restaurant was empty at about 4.30 in the afternoon and the sign said it was a cafe as well!
Well that just topped it all of for us! Maybe he thought we were Poms!
Anyway we head for London tomorrow.
This is the beautiful dome in the Galleria Lafayette shopping center in Paris. It has lots of metal lacework on each of its little balconies.
