We eventually made Harrods about 4.30pm and found that they were having a sale for the Friday Saturday and Sunday so it was jam packed. We went into some of the food halls and they were great but we got sick of being pushed and shoved by people with bags and bags trying to spend even more money. Every race was represented here from Sheiks in turbans to black men with cockney accents! We could not even find a cup of coffee here so we decided to retreat to the other side of the road to a cafe and we watched them all from there over a Devonshire tea and cake.

Day 24 Friday 21 June
Today we started with a bus trip, of course, to Portobello Road looking for the markets. We started at one end which was the wrong end and we worked our way to the market and it went so far we pulled out before the end. There was an amazing array of goods and antique shops and stalls and it eventually became a farmers market. The street is virtually closed but there was always someone trying to drive along between the stalls. This took us a long time and by the time we wanted to go to Harrods we had to catch a bus past Kensington Palace to save our legs and began to walk back. There were several Museums on the way and we decided to take a break in the Museum of Natural History with great displays of gems and precious stones and all sorts of rocks. Well I enjoyed that but Beryl not so much so a good chance for her to sit and have a rest for a while.
