Day 32 Saturday 29 June

We awoke this morning in Breisach and as we were going on the optional tour to the Black Forest at 8.15 am we just caught a fleeting glimpse of the town before heading out thru the hills in the rain to the Cuckoo Clock Makers Shop. Passing quaint little wooden houses with shingle roofs and balconies festooned with flowers and mysterious forests you could be forgiven for expecting Hansel and Gretel to pop out of the mist.
The House of Black Forest Clocks has an enormous stock of souvenirs and our tour group (including us) contributed to the wealth of the area quite substantially. They gave us all a beautiful piece of Black Forest Gateau with cream and cherries and raspberry jam and chocolate cake! This was amazing as they told me it had zero calories so eat as much as you like!
We went back thru Breisach, which had a fort occupied by the Celts as early as 1000BC, to the ship to try and fit some lunch in and then it was off to Colmar. The weather fined up on the French side and Colmar was indeed one of the prettiest small towns we have seen. We did a walk around the famous timber framed houses and then we headed to the market Beryl had spotted for a bit of shopping. While B was trying to find some Bombay Bloomers I wandered down the street smack into a flash crowd, who did a great song which I cant remember (no it wasn't singing in the rain!), and one of the lovely young Ladies gave me a rose when they wandered thru the crowd. This came in handy later when I gave it to our heavily pregnant Guide as a good luck gesture.
Altogether a very pleasant town which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Back on board for our Farewell Dinner of  about 25 courses ( I cant remember exactly) and sailing for Basel to disembark, and on to Zurich.
